ESL Cape Breton provides international students an opportunity to learn English as a foreign language in a summer of study and fun. Classes are scheduled from 08:30 am until 12:30 pm. Students will take part in a wide variety of activities during the afternoon sessions. A list of the many interesting sites on Cape Breton Island is included in our information package. Students will be billeted with families for a closer look at Cape Breton Society, as well as practise of the English language. Excursions to points of interest are treated as language-learning occasions, from nature walks, a visit to the Fortress of Louisbourg, or at a cook-out and a sing-a-long on a beach. Some of these excursions are included in the tuition and others will require an entrance fee. |

This English-as-Second-Language program is aimed at those persons who wish to improve their language skills: - because of business/professional needs, - for ease of international travel, - to better function as an immigrant to Canada, - for academic reasons, - for the satisfaction of learning another language. Course Objectives To enable our students to speak, read and comprehend English well enough to operate in areas where English is the language of the people. The focus will be on developing, listening and speaking skills as well as improving reading skills and English grammer in a friendly, non-stressful environment. In class the students will learn and practise basic grammar, expressions and vocabulary, participate in excursions, meet and converse with English-speaking Cape Bretoners and experience Canadian culture.
