In addition to two nation-wide television channels and four nation-wide radio services there are 60 local television stations and 303 local radio stations. Danes have traditionally been eager culture consumers. About 11,500 books are published each year, and there are 42 daily newspapers. Libraries annually lend about 113 million books (and 9 million records and tape cassettes). Theatres receive some public support, but are themselves responsible for their repertoire. The Royal Danish Ballet is considered to be one of the world's leading groups. In recent years the film industry has produced 10 to 16 films each year. Football (soccer) is the national sport, but swimming, sailing, cycling and cross-country running are also very popular. |
