| During the 1860s, Tele Danmark laid the main
lines of the Danish domestic telegraph network and established the first telegraph links
from Denmark to other countries. In 1857, the first Danish submarine cable containing
three copper wires was laid across the Great Belt - and in 1870, Denmark helped establish
the first telegraph link between Japan and Europe via Siberia. Today, Tele Danmark continues this pioneering tradition by building modern telecommunications networks beyond the borders of Denmark as well. The Reliable Danish Infrastructure |

Expertise Mobile communications technology is another area in which Tele Danmark has a great deal of expertise. The company was one of the original group of Nordic telecoms which developed the NMT (Nordic Mobile Telephone) system in the 1970s. Tele Danmark also participated in the development of the new pan-European GSM mobile system and Denmark was the first country in the world with nationwide GSM coverage. At present, GSM penetration in Denmark is among the highest in the world. The
Vision Goes On Active Partnership Tele Danmark already has an outstanding record when it comes to exporting its telecommunications know-how. Recent projects include: GSM and NMT mobile networks in Hungary, Lithuania and the Ukraine, and a nationwide paging system in Germany. The Far Eastern Connection Additionally, Tele Danmark and China UNICOM are partners with Telenor and the Hysan Development Company Ltd. in Honeycomb, a consortium which is, at the moment, bidding for a PCS License in Hong Kong. To signal the company's commitment to participate actively in the Far Eastern telecommunications arena, Tele Danmark opened its first regional office in Asia on July 12, 1995 in Hong Kong.
