The owners are Mr. Guttorm Simonsen, Chairman of the Board and captain with 35 years' experience at sea, and his brother Mr. Per Simonsen, Director and first mate who has been a fisherman for the past 20 years.

The Simonsens founded the company when investing in M/s Polarstjørnan in September 1993.

M/s Polarstjørnan is a 216,66 gross tons line vessel with an engine power of 500 hp, built in Ulsteinsvik, Norway, in 1961.

The vessel practices high seas fisheries, with quotas in Faroese territorial waters, Icelandic juridiction, and Norwegian and European Union fishing protectal zones. The main catch of cod, haddock, tusk and ling, is sold mainly to Faroese fish factories but also directly abroad to markets in Iceland, Norway and England.

M/s Polarstjørnan has a regular crew of 15 experienced fishermen.
