The metal sector of the Finnish industry
The largest industrial sector in Finland is metal and engineering, no matter how size is measured. During the last few decades Finland has managed to develop these industries although the country is best known for its wood.

At present the metal and engineering industry accounts for some 35 per cent of total industrial output and of the work force. Its share of Finnish exports has for a long time been slightly over 40 per cent.
