Probably the best known Finnish metal industry products are forestry machines and equipment. Ships for demanding conditions are also a Finnish specialty, concentrating on vessels for Arctic conditions and on large car ferries and luxury cruisers.

Machines and equipment manufactured for the forest industry by Finnish companies range from harvesters to paper machines. In fact, Finland is one of the worlds leading paper machine manufacturers. In addition Finland is well known for various hoisting and material handling devices such as cranes and mining industry machines. All in all machines and equipment make up approximately 30 per cent and ships and other vehicles some 18 per cent of the metal industry's exports.
