| Sustainable
development To ensure prosperity the forest industry needs a proper forest management system. Finns take good care of their "green gold", at present, planting four seedlings for each tree cut. Thus only 70 per cent of the annual forest growth is used by industry, while the rest is left to augment our forest reserves. This is largely due to the system of ownership, three fourths of the raw material comes from what is called "family forests" which are privately owned and thus well kept. In addition to being an important provider of raw material, the forests are a significant source of relaxation for Finns. |
