Kangerlussuaq Airport is situated about 50 km north of the Arctic Circle, approx. 4,000 km from Northern Europe. Its position is 67° 00' N and 50° 45' W. It lies at the end of 180-km-long Kangerlussuaq, which means "The Great Fjord".

The airport is situated in West Greenland's largest ice-free region, which is rich in fauna, including musk oxen, reindeer, Arctic foxes and Arctic hares, together with many species of birds in the summer months.
Settlements and tools from a 4,300 year old Eskimo culture have been found in the area.
The international scientific community is very interested in establishing an Arctic research centre based at Kangerlussuaq. The first steps in this direction have already been taken. For the past 10 years the National Science Foundation, in collaboration with Denmark's Meteorological Institute, has operated a large research radar station in the harbour area.

Leisure activities
Play golf at the world's northernmost 18-hole golf course. Join a photo safari and "shoot" musk oxen, reindeer and Arctic hares and foxes. Take a boat trip on the fjord, a tour to the ice cap, or a fishing trip in the pure waters of Greenland's lakes and rivers - an angler's paradise.

Summer walking tours in the mountains offer an unforgettable impression of Greenland's beautiful flora. From mid-June to August, the ground is covered with flowers and plants and in August, with blueberries and crowberries.
Winter in Greenland offers many exciting activities, including cross-country skiing and snow-scooting.
In summer, the temperature often reaches a pleasant 22 to 24°C, while in winter, it can drop right down to -50°C.
