(31 miles) from Reykjavík, with good shuttle bus connections to the capital. From there, Icelandair and Iceland Express have regular scheduled flights to major cities,

over Western Europe and the USA. There are some charter
flights as well. Iceland is, along with 14 other European countries, a participant in the Schengen co-operation, which has the objective to secure free passage of individuals over the borders of participant states. This means there is no personal border control for passengers travelling to Iceland from another Schengen state. The other Schengen states are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.
When arriving to Iceland by flight passengers can shop in the duty-free store in the Leifur Eiríksson
terminal both on exit and entry and incoming passengers can bring up to 1
litre of alcohol and 1 litre of wine or 6 litres of beer into the country
tax-free, in addition to 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of other tobacco
products. While in Iceland, visitors can reclaim VAT on purchases of more
than ISK 4,000 in each store. Locally, Flugfélag Íslands (Air Iceland) operates scheduled flights between Reykjavík Airport and several other towns around the country. The airport is only a few minutes drive from the city centre. There are some regional carriers as well.
