There are no Regional code prefixes in Iceland

There are no regional code prefixes in Iceland and all phone numbers are seven digits. The country code is 354. When calling a number in another country from Iceland, dial 00, then the country code. There are two telephone directories (Símaskrá), one for Greater Reykjavík, the other for the rest of the country, split into various geographical areas. Icelanders are listed by their first name in the directory, not the last.

mobile phone use in Iceland

Iceland has the highest per capita mobile phone use in the world and below many names in the telephone directory, there is a second line, “Farsími”, with a phone number beside it. Visitors to the country can rent mobile phones from Iceland Telecom, Ármúli 27, Reykjavík.

Coin and card operated public pay phones can be found in some places, especially bus stations, airports, tourist offices and post and telephone company offices.

Post offices are generally open 9.00 am – 4.30 pm on weekdays but the office at Grensásvegur 9, Reykjavík stays open until 20.00 pm and is open on Saturdays from 10.00 am – 14.00 pm.
