At Galtafell Guesthouse we offer comfortable apartments and rooms. We are located in the heart of Reykjavík within easy walking distance to popular restaurants, cafés, shops and museums. Galtafell is a historical house and the former home of the beloved Icelandic artist Guðmundur Thorsteinsson – Muggur.

Our Rooms
Our bright and non-smoking apartment suites are comfortably furnished and all have private entrance. The apartment suites consist of a bedroom, bathroom, living room and a fully equipped kitchen corner. Laundry facilities are in the building.

The apartments can comfortably sleep up to four persons. Bed linen and towels are provided. We also offer double rooms and single rooms. All rooms and apartments have TV, DVD, internet access, hairdryer and an iron. Possibility of an extra bed.

Children are very welcome. Free parking


Our History
Guesthouse Galtafell is a historical house and the former home of the beloved Icelandic artist Guðmundur Thorsteinsson - Muggur. 

His father built the house in 1916 after blueprints from Iceland´s state architect of that time Einar Erlendsson.

The house has many characteristics which underline that it was meant to be used as an art studio such as large windows and bright rooms for the artist.

In 1924 it was bought by Bjarni Jonsson (Bíó Bjarni) who was well known in Reykjavík for opening one of the city´s first cinemas.  Bjarni was the youngest brother of the famous sculptor Einar Jónsson.

The Einar Jónsson Museum is within 10 minutes walking distance of Guesthouse Galtafell.
