Leading European Chitosan manufacturer

Liposan - A natural dietary supplement

Primex ehf. is an Iceland based company producing chitin derivatives and specialty marine proteins. Primex is the successor of Genis ehf, which acquired the Norwegian company Primex Ingredients ASA in September 2001. The company is now operated in three locations;
- Head Quarters and Production in Siglufjordur, Iceland.
- Research and Development in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.
- Marketing and Sales in Primex Biochemicals, a subsidiary of Primex ehf located in Haugesund, Norway.

Following this merger, Primex ehf has expanded and cemented its position as the most significant European supplier of chitin derived products.

In addition to its chitin-based products, Primex also supply partially hydrolysed marine proteins for various applications in the food and feed markets.

Chitin and chitosan based products

Roots in Icelandic Fishing Industry and Modern Biotechnology
Icelandic seafood products are traditionally recognized world wide as products of highest quality. Growing stock markets and increased focus on new technologies have stimulated exceptional growth in the marine sector throughout the country.

Primex position among the strong and expanding Icelandic Marine Biotechnology market and development field have contributed to designing a highly advanced chitosan plant, resting on firm ground on the year-around supply of fresh shrimp shells. More than a decade of research in the field of enzyme technology has contributed to development of modern biotech methods to produce chito-oligosacharides and high quality specialty fish proteins and marine flavors from fish and crustacean raw-materials.

Manufacture of Chito Clear chitosans.
Primex is exploiting the unique features Iceland has to offer for its chitin and chitosan production. This includes abundant year-around source of fresh shrimp shells, which is received through pipelines directly from the shrimp pealing machines, as well as an abundant and high purity water source. The single source of raw material used for these products is the North Atlantic shrimp, Pandalus borealis.
The manufacturing plant is flexible and technically advanced, with a annual capacity of producing up to 500 tons of chitosan.
Primex continues to emphasize product development, involving various modifications of dissolved chitosans, such as microcrystalline chitosan (MCCh) and chito-oligosacharides. Our purified and consistent products are intended to serve the increasing need for higher quality chitosans, exhibiting high level of activities pertinent to many developing market applications.
