It was in the year 1000 AD that Leifur Eiriksson, an Icelander, discovered America, and that same year the Icelanders abandoned Odinn, Thor, Freyja and the other gods of the Norse pagan religion and adopted Christianity.

In the year 2000, Iceland is celebrated a millennium of Christianity in the country, spanning half of the time that has elapsed since the birth of Christ.  To mark the occasion, the goldsmith Gudbjartur Thorleifsson has designed this special and uniquely piece of jewellery.
