The saga
The royal comforts from Himinn are based on a millennium experience. In 930 the family of Skarð were one of the first settlers who came to Iceland and brought with them the knowledge and know how to make the royal comforts. Since that time the family has lived there and does still. This whole millennium the family of Skarð can proudly say, that they have produced the eiderdown in almost all royal beds in Europe.

The Tradition
The production of eiderdown is 100% environmentally friendly. This relationship between man and bird is exceptional, for the eider surrenders the down to the man after she has brought up her chicks. The eider plucks the down from her breast to cover the eggs from the cold. The eider lives in a colony of nest nearby human inhabitants to get the human’s protection from other predators and egg thieves. This symbiosis insures the eiders maximum rate of survival. It is therefore in the farmers’ interest to protect the wild life for that is the only insurance for his economical standing.

Products
During this time the family has refined the method of cleaning and treating the eiderdown and consequently they are the largest producers of eiderdown today. Although we live in a century full of artificial materials, nothing has yet surpassed the nature of the eiderdown in the insulation quality and lightness. There is therefore no wonder that the eiderdown is the most luxurious duvet available in the world today.
