Hotel Borgarnes is a three-star
hotel in a town of 2000 inhabitants, 70 kilometres west of Reykjavík. Every
effort is made to provide guests with good, personal service. The hotel
is located 120 kilometres from the international airport. Hotel Borgarnes
has 75 rooms, all equipped with the latest modern facilities, such as television,
shower, and telephone. The hotel has a good restaurant, and it also has
excellent facilities for meetings and conferences for both large and small
groups. Adjacent to the hotel is a large outdoor swimming pool with hot pools. Several sites mentioned in the Saga of Egill, one of the gems of Icelandic medieval literature, are also found in the immediate vicinity. There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation in the area: scenic hiking and riding paths, historical monuments, and an interesting museum. Borgarnes is an attractive town with a population of about 2000. It is a centre for trade and services in the Borgarfjörður area. Two university-level institutions are found in this district: the Commercial College at Bifröst and the Agricultural College at Hvanneyri. In addition, Snorrastofa in Reykholt is a European centre for research in medieval literature. Borgarnes is only a short distance from Snæfellsnes peninsula, Deildartunga, the waterfalls at Hraunfossar, the cave Surtshellir, and Langjökull glacier. The town is located on National Highway No. 1, which extends all the way around the country. |
