Icelandic Hydrographic Service

The Company
The Icelandic Hydrographic Service is a department of the Icelandic Coast Guard. The organization was originally established in the 1930´s and is responsible for maintaining charts covering the coast around Iceland and adjacent waters.


The Products
The Hydrographic Service produces nautical charts as well as Tide Tables, List of Lights and other nautical publications. Notices to Mariners are published monthly. Currently, there are approx. 60 nautical charts on issue together with some special charts. The products are sold and distributed by authorized dealers both domestically and abroad.


Quality Control
All surveys and work process is conducted according to the International Hydrographic Organization standards. All new products are therefore according to the same. Older products are upgraded as they are re-published.


Assets
The Hydrographic Service owns and operates the 20 m survey vessel Baldur in order to carry out its mission around the coast. The larger patrol vessels of the Icelandic Coast Guard are equipped to conduct surveys farther off the coast. The staff consists of 12-14 people, trained surveyors and cartographers. The office is within the Icelandic Coast Guard headquarters in the capital city of Reykjavík.
