Local Icelandic photographer of international merit Jon Pall Vilhelmsson is a well known photographer in Iceland. He´s been actively involved in creating an image of modern Iceland through advertising, print media and TV. His reputation has brought him jobs from LA, New York, Santa Barbara, Germany, Stockholm, London and all the major magazines, newspapers and advertising agencies in Iceland. Editorial Reykjavik is a happening place right now. It's filled with creative people, musicians, filmmakers, artists, sports people, scientist, models and wild night life. Icelandic natural scenery makes an ideal backdrop for your story; glacier lagoon, the Blue lagoon, Geyser, volcanic activity and all the elements of surprise. The winter makes an ideal surroundings for winter fashion, and the summer is really wonderful. It¹s never too hot in Iceland! Advertising Give people what they want! Something new, different, exciting and above all make it look extraordinary. Location in Iceland, weather in city, town or country offers a distinctively different look for the product which seems identical to your competitors. For automotive there´s a "magic hour" for up to three hours, not just five minutes. For shoes and outfits there´s a colourful range of rock formations, waterfalls and scenery. For lifestyle image advertising there are endless opportunities to make a visually interesting image for your product. Commercial Trawlers in wild seas and top of the line fishing industry. Geothermal power plants. Catch of the Atlantic ocean. Portraiture of local professionals. You name it, I'll catch it on film, scan it and have the image on it's way through Cyber-space within Cyber-time! My Approach to photography In a fast paced world in editorial, fashion and advertising in a very small economy I can´t have the luxury of defining myself to one specific style and approach. The benefit is flexibility and the ability to listen the my clients needs. When I know what the message should be and to whom it´s directed to I´ll propose an idea for an appropriate style or approach to the subject. Commercial photography is a delicate blend of both art and industry. With industry comes an logical understanding of delivering the right message to the right person at the right place at the right time at the right price. With art comes the element of visual surprise which lures the viewer to act, be informed or entertained. Leave one element out and we loose the target. Photography as pure art belongs to galleries and museums. Photography as mere industry belongs in the trash. As a businessman I focus on making the right things happen in front of the lens but as an artist I make certain allowances for the unexpected. Never underestimate the element of surprise.
