Iceland cartography institute
The National Land Survey of Iceland is the country’s cartography institute. It has been involved in mapping all sections of the country for over 50 years, and published a vast array of printed and digital maps on various scales. The institute also focuses on surveying and developing a digital map database.

Touring Map of Iceland
The National Land Survey publishes an overall Touring Map of Iceland on a scale of 1:500 000. A revised edition of this best-selling map is released biennially. Other ever-popular publications are the Road Atlas with numerous Theme Maps of Iceland, Special Maps of Iceland and a variety of practical information for tourists. A new edition of the Iceland Touring Map three overlapping section maps comprising the entire country on a scale of 1:250 000 was recently published.

Up-to-date maps of Iceland
The Survey is meticulous in ensuring that information on maps is up-to-date, for example regarding road systems and tourist services.

All legends are in four languages: Icelandic, English, German, and French. Special Maps of main tourist destinations and national parks are also available, for example Hornstrandar, Skaftafell National Park, and Thórsmork/Landmannalaugar. There are also topographical maps of the entire country on scales of 1:100 000 and 1:50 000.

Best-selling CDs, incl. Flying over Iceland
The National Land Survey of Iceland has published several best-selling CDs, including the all-time best seller Flying over Iceland. A satellite image is placed over a 3-D model of the country and the user then becomes a pilot as he takes control of all instruments and “flies” over the Iceland.

Disc maps of Iceland
The Survey has also released three map discs: Map Disc 1 contains maps on a scale of 1:500 000 and 1:250 000; Map Disc 2 contains Atlas maps of the country on a scale of 1:100 00; Map Disc 3 is the latest release and is comprised of Special Maps as well as topographical maps and the new Municipal Maps. Software included with the discs allow the user to modify the maps with texts and drawings, make copies, find coordinates, connect to GPS devices, etc.
