Flowering Plants and
Ferns of Iceland
This book, the first of its kind in Iceland,
includes 382 full-colour photographs of the majority of flowering plants
and ferns found in Iceland, all shown in their natural setting. A full
discussion of the characteristics, habitat and distribution of the 365
most common plant species accompany the photographs. Other rarer species
are described as well, but in less detail.
Apart from the photographs, each description is accompanied by a map
illustrating distribution, as well as black and white drawings which
call attention to details that might otherwise escape the eye.
The book is organised by flower colour and other distinguishing characteristics,
making it easy for the layman to use. Also included are indices to the
English, Icelandic and Latin names of plants.
This is a book for anyone interested in nature, specialist and non-specialist
alike.
The author, Hördur Kristinsson, is among the most distinguished scientists
in his field. Formerly Professor of Botany at the University of Iceland,
he has been studying and photographing the flora of Iceland for years,
and many of the photographs in this book are from his private collection.
English title: Flowering Plants and Ferns of Iceland
German title: Die Blütenpflanzen und Farne Islands.
Hardcover with 310 pages.
