Icelandic Horse Books

The Icelandic Horse
The Icelandic Horse is the first book dedicated
to this extraordinary animal. The fully-comprehensive study
discusses all aspects of this unique breed and is complimented by a
large number of photographs and illustrations – many of which have
not been seen before.
The areas covered in the book are:
-
The history and origins of the
Icelandic horse from the time of settlement in 871 AD to the
present.
-
The horse‘s role in day-to-day
life; once it was used for transport and as a working animal,
now it is used primarily for recreation.
-
The Icelandic horse in literature
and the arts - including the works of famous Icelandic artists
that have horses featured in them.
-
An investigation into the
traditions, rules and problems which face breeders of the
Icelandic horse.
-
The unique attributes of the
Icelandic horse, including its extra gaits and ability to walk
on rough ground.
-
The growing popularity of the breed
in the world – as shown by the increasing number of Icelandic
horse clubs and competitions.
The Icelandic horse‘s
character has been moulded both by the inhospitable weather and by
the freedom it enjoys in the Icelandic countryside. The breed is now
well-known globally and is bred to the highest levels.
The book, The Icelandic Horse, is an indispensable guide
for any horse-lover wishing to deepen their knowledge and
understanding of this unique breed.
The book is available
