North Sailing is an award-winning family company that operates whale watching tours from Húsavík in the north of Iceland.  The company operates scheduled trips from mid April through to late October, with up to nine departures per day.

Whale watching from Húsavík is hugely popularity amongst visitors to Iceland and Húsavík is often referred to as the ‘Whale watching capital of Europe’.

All of North Sailing’s boats are Icelandic oak boats converted to carry passengers. Those vessels are especially comfortable, and along with the stunning surroundings, give the passengers a unique experience.

Since North Sailing began whale watching tours in Iceland in 1995, 12 species of whales have been sighted on their trips. The most common once are minke whales, humpbacks, white beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises. Occasionally blue whales, fin whales and sei whales are seen, to much enjoyment of the passengers and crew.

Get a chance to see some of the incredible marine mammals that visit Skjálfandi Bay each year. Sail out to the bay on an Icelandic Oak boat and enjoy the spectacular scenery and abundance of birdlife.

Whales, Puffins & Sails

North Sailing also offers a trip that combines whale & bird watching and sailing on Iceland’s only schooner ‘Whales, Puffins & Sails’. This tour has become increasingly popular and gives passengers a real ‘hands-on’ experience, as they get to help out pull up the sails and assist with the navigation.

For this trip North Sailing uses Haukur,  a two rigged schooner and which is the only one of its kind in Iceland. The schooner is a replica of the shark fishing schooners that were common in the north of Iceland around 1900.
