Thingvellir, Iceland's National Shrine, is a wonderful 72 pages book about Thingvellir, printed in full colour. Bjorn Thorsteinsson, late professor of history at the University of Iceland, was one of the most knowledgeable people of his generation on Thingvellir and its surroundings. Here, in translation by Peter Foote, professor emeritus of London University, is his guide to the historic site he knew so well. The book contains pphotographs, drawings and maps. The text covers the history of the Althing and gives a brief account of how this marvel of nature was formed and reformed through volcanic activity before and since the settlement fo Iceland. This book is very good guide to Iceland's National Shrine.
