Samskip Samskip is a transport company, which offers its customers comprehensive solutions regarding transport and transport related services. Samskip offers a weekly route from Iceland to Europe with 700 TEU container vessels, calling Immingham, Rotterdam, Cuxhaven, Århus, Varberg and Moss. Departures are from Reykjavik every Thursday. Strong links Samskip operates a network of approximately 25 offices in several countries around the world, including the US, Holland, UK, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Denmark and Norway, as well as an extensive network of agencies. In co-operation with its subsidiaries, Samskip offers consolidated consignments by ship or by air, goods distribution centre, bonded warehouse and all customs documentation services, in addition to bulk cargo and a domestic transport system with transport centres all around Iceland. Drawing on its international background, Samskip is able to offer customers links with most countries in the world. Liner services Liner services between Iceland and Europe are at the centre of Samskip’s operations, but the company has developed close co-operation agreements with overseas transport firms so that cargo can be speeded from the company’s principal ports of operation to destinations worldwide. Samskip operates two modern containerships on weekly schedules from Reykjavik. The sisterships ‘Arnarfell’ and ‘Helgafell’, of 700 teu capacity, call at Immingham (UK); Rotterdam and Cuxhaven on the Continent; and Århus, Varberg and Moss in Scandinavia before returning to Reykjavik. A fortnightly service transporting fish and seafood products operates from main ports in Murmansk, Tromsø, Bodø, Alesund and Grimsby, linking these with destinations in Scandinavia, Europe, the US and Russia. The main focus is on transport of frozen and chilled food products such as fish, meat, vegetables and fruit between market areas. Reefer Logistics Centre: Iceworld Samskip is proud of its first class cold storage facilities. The US$ 3 million Isheimar (Ice World), Samskip’s Reefer Logistics Centre in Reykjavik, was built in 1998 with the aim of making Samskip’s service more economical, comprehensive, speedy and reliable. The Reefer Logistics Centre uses state-of-the-art technology, fulfilling customers’ most stringent demands regarding the storage, handling and inspection of frozen food products. Fish catches are discharged from trawlers right next to Isheimar and moved directly from the vessel side to the Reefer Logistics Centre. In a total area of 2,600 square metres, the unit can store 3,500 pallets and handle up to 600 units daily. Through special height levered doors, it can handle eight containers simultaneously. |
