The farm Stadur at Hrutafjordur has a long history as an inn. Travellers stopped there on their way to different parts of Iceland and rural postmen met there to exchange mail. Stadur retained its popularity after automobile travel became common with business steadily increasing after a petrol pump was installed in 1929. Now Stadarskali offers refreshments of all kinds and it is also a store and information centre for travellers.
