Stofnfiskur HF is Iceland’s largest producer of eyed salmon eggs. Production is drawn from a network of five farms, four in the southwest of the country and one in the north. In addition, Stofnfiskur has a subsidiary company in Ireland, Stofnfiskur Ireland Ltd.

Products
Stofnfiskur produces 50 million eyed salmon eggs a year, available on an all-year-round basis. Egg quality is constantly being improved through the company’s extensive breeding programmes for salmon, both in Iceland and Ireland. Further selective breeding programmes are currently at an advanced stage of pre-launch development in Chile and Scotland.

Stofnfiskur is the only company in the world with the ability to produce salmon eggs on a year-round basis, an achievement based on dynamic breed selection and top quality research. Being able to supply eggs throughout the year enables the company to meet their customers’ precise delivery requirements in full. Such a marketplace advantage is a significant boost to Stofnfiskur’s production efficiency. It has also created extensive new business opportunities in countries with totally different seasons from those in Iceland, such as Chile where Stofnfiskur has secured substantial sales in recent years.

Other established products include Rainbow Trout and Arctic Charr ova, soon to be expanded by the addition of Abalone spat. The company already holds a leading position in the selective breeding of Abalone and is scheduled to begin the production of Abalone spat in September/October in the year 2002.

In addition to managing its own production and sales business, Stofnfiskur also provides specialist consultancy to many other fish farming companies throughout the world.
