German Air Lithuania Veiveriu str. 132 |

| Air Lithuania, the state-owned regional airline, was established on 13 September 1991, based on the former flying subdivision of the Kaunas joint air detachment of Aeroflot. On 17 July 1995, Air Lithuania was reorganised into a joint-stock company, thus inheriting not only 6 YAK-40 aircraft but also a huge store of knowledge and experience. At the beginning of the summer of 1992, the company leased a TU-154 aircraft which was used for charter flights to Istanbul. At the end of 1992, two more TU-134A aircraft were received.
At first company operated only charter flights, but on 12 February 1993 the first regular Kaunas - Budapest - Kaunas flight was inaugurated. Now there are 6 regular flights connecting Lithuania with Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, Hungary and Denmark. |
At present we pursue the policy of a regional air company, i.e. we take advantage of all possibilities on the air market. On 28 November 1996, we started a new regular flight to Billund, the geographical centre of Denmark. Air Lithuania is working hard, not only searching for new markets but also in consolidating the ones it has acquired: passenger services are being improved, much more attention is being paid to security, and so on. This year Air Lithuania acquired a new western-type ATR-42 aircraft as part of our air fleet renovation programme. Air Lithuania is mainly orientated to passenger carriage (in 1995 we carried more than 37 000 passengers) but it also offers cargo services (in 1995: 316 tons of cargo). Air Lithuania flies in America and Africa as well as in Europe and Asia. A great many eminent persons from Lithuania and elsewhere have flown with us: politicians, sportsmen, businessmen, artists. People choose our company not only for secure, fast and comfortable transport, but also for the inimitable charm of the flight and our stand-out service. |
