In 1926, in Anyksciai, Balys Karazija, a student at the Academy of Agriculture, started making delicious, aromatic wine from fruits and berries, which won international acknowledgement after a couple of years. At the 1938 international exhibition in Paris the wine Birute won the Grand prize while the wines Senasis and Banga won Gold Medals. During the post-war period Anyksciu Winery became the leader in national wine production and an experimental base for wine development and production. Natural wines were awarded a sign of quality and were shown at international exhibitions in New York, Leipzig and London. In 1969, in London, Anyksciai wine was acclaimed a tremendous success. Anyksciu Winery is the oldest and largest wine producing company, not only in Lithuania but also in all the Baltic states. It has been internationally recognised and many Lithuanian generations have enjoyed and still enjoy its wine. The enterprise produces wines from fruits and berries: apples, red currant, and black rowanberry. The production for these wines cycle takes until one year and they are remarkable for their delicious taste and aroma. Versme, Silelis and Saltupys are apple wines which, due to complicated processing techniques, distinguish themselves with different qualities of taste. Aronijos vynas (black rowanberry wine) is a wine of rich colour and a particularly pleasant taste. Raudonuju serbentu vynas is a wine made of red currants which are common in Lithuania. This wine has a fresh, light taste and aroma. Anyksta is an apple sherry produced only by the Anyksciu Winery. Due to the aldehyde and acetyl which are formed during the process of fermentation, the aroma and taste of the sherry are very special. In 1991, the company started to produce 10 different kinds of liqueurs. Only natural juices are used for producing the liqueurs. The company also produces non-alcoholic beverages and mineral water. Only natural juices are used for their production, without any preservative or sugar substitutes. At the moment all products are bottled using German and Italian machinery with a capacity of 10-12 thousand bottles per hour, and including a pasteurising line which makes it possible to produce products with a longer shelf-life without adding preservative. Since 1987, a line for juice production from the Swiss firm Unipektin was installed. It can process about 450 tonnes of apples in 24 hours. In order to avoid waste, dried apple pomace is produced as a by-product. This year the company began to bottle concentrated juice drinks which are made according to the European Union's juice and nectar industry standards controlling the quality of juice drinks. In 1987, the company started to produce Karvute candy. The Winery bottles not only its own production but also Moldavian and Ukrainian port wines and Azerbaijan and French brandies. At the moment the company operates with five production lines. One of them is confectionery, producing 1000 tonnes of Karvute candy per year; second is non-alcoholic beverages, with 150,000 dcl of juice drinks and mineral water; third is the canning industry with 2500 tons of dried apple pomace and concentrated apple juice; and fourth strong liquor with 150,000 dcl. But the company's main activity is wine production. It produces and bottles 800,000 dcl of wine per year. Concentrated apple juice and apple aroma are exported to Germany, Switzerland, the USA and Estonia; dried apple pomace to the Czech Republic and Germany and candy to Russia and other countries. The company has been awarded the International Diamond Star for product quality and the International European award. |
