Established in May 1992, Arijus was one of the first independent agencies in Lithuania. It was appointed sales agent of the independent Latvian container line Maras Linija that same year. Maras Linija was established in 1990, when Latvia was still part of the Soviet Union. A great deal has changed since then: Latvia has regained independence and Maras Linija has grown into one of the largest liner services in the trade between Latvia, Estonia, Russia and Northern Europe. In 1995, Arijus was appointed as port and sales agent in Lithuania by another two lines: P&O Containers and Kurshiu Linija. The former is well known in the shipping business, and has given Lithuanian customers the opportunity to ship and receive goods in containers from all over the world. The latter, Kurshiu Linija, is a relative newcomer to the busy trade between the ports of Klaipeda and Kaliningrad in the east and Felixstowe and Rotterdam in the west. The line was established in spring 1995, but has managed to achieve the position of being the largest container carrier on this route. In 1995 it carried 6500 TEU's; in 1996 the number reached 11,250 TEU's and the forecast for 1997 is 15,000 TEU's. Arijus has grown, together with the lines serving the region, and today it has a staff of 36 who are able to meet all customer's shipping needs.
