Artrio was established in Vilnius on 27th May 1991 by three individuals with an authorized capital of SUR 3000. As with most private companies at the time, the firm engaged in a number of activities including wholesaling of metals, cigarettes, foodstuffs, alcoholic drinks and tourism development. It achieved good results, and the shareholders soon decided to invest in a number of specific spheres.

The company's activities have been restructured and a number of subsidiaries have been founded, including Artrio-2 in Vilnius and Vilpa in Palanga, both of which are involved in wholesaling alcoholic drinks and food, and Mono, which runs a 140-person hotel in the Nida health and holiday resort.

The company's equity has grown to LTL 1,000,000, and it has acquired an administrative building and warehouses with a total area of 4000 m2 on lease. Artrio and its subsidiaries currently employ about 200 people and their annual turnover is about LTL 110 million.

Artrio-2 was founded in April 1993. With a staff of 90, and the firm's main activity is the wholesaling of alcoholic drinks to about 1000 shops, restaurants and bars. We represent all the major Lithuanian producers, and have three subsidiaries in Utena, Siauliai and Marijampole. Turnover for 1996 was LTL 72 million.

Vilpa was founded in January 1992, the shareholders being Artrio and Mr Arunas Grigalauskas of Palanga. The company started its retail activities in Palanga, establishing the food shops Smitele and Vejopatis. In 1993, Vilpa began wholesaling Lithuanian alcoholic drinks, becoming the representative of Alita in the west of the country.

The Jurele trade centre was founded in 1994, followed by the general foods and bakery centre Kimba in 1995, which employs 104 people with an annual turnover of c. LTL 10 million.

Vilpa now employs more than 50 people and has 300 clients among retail trade and catering enterprises which it supplies with more than 90 brands of Lithuanian alcoholic drinks. The firm has 300 m2 of retail warehouses, with 2000 m2 of reserve warehouse space. Its suppliers include all the country's largest food and alcohol producers, and it represents Alita, Stumbras, Vilniaus degtine and Lietuviskas midus in western Lithuania.
