The Lithuanian-German joint venture Baltik Vairas was founded in 1993, when the State Bicycle and Engine Factory was divided into two separate factories. The firm is privately capitalised. Our German partners helped us to renew production and enables to produce bicycles that meet European standards. The reputation of our company increased considerably, as Baltik Vairas is now the only one of the former USSR bicycle producers which has achieved good results. We are producing bicycles for teenagers and adults. The "basic" types of bicycles can be modified according to the concrete orders and market demand. The demand for bicycles is growing, so this year we have had to increase our production by about 30% and to produce about 140-150 thousand bikes this year. About 75% of our production are mountain, trekking and touring bicycles. The rest are simple trekking 1-speed bicycles, which are still very popular in the Baltic countries and Russia. The processes of mechanical treatment, frame welding, galvanizing, painting and assembling are being carried out in the factory. Quality requirements are strict. Bicycle parts, steel tubes and other raw materials are imported from West European countries: tubes from Finland and Germany, paints and bicycle parts from Germany, paints and bicycle parts from Germany, Italy, France, Taiwan and Japan and tyres from the Czech Republic. We do not buy raw materials from Russia because their prices are high and their quality is not up to western standards. However our bicycles are being sold to many different countries. About 60% are exported to West European countries and the others are sold in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. We take part in bicycle fairs in Germany (Köln), Russia (Moscow), Poland and other countries where we present our products and find new customers. |
