In May 17 1991 Private Company Comliet commenced its activities. Its founders are two Lithuanian companies -- State Owned Company Lietuvos Telekomas, UAB Antena and Luxembourgian Millicom International Cellular S.A., Danish TeleDanmark International A.S. Company Comliet has been delivering mobile cellular communications services for the NMT 450 standard, the beginning of which coincided with the restoration of Independence of Lithuania and international recognition. First steps, however, were not easy, since this was the first company of such a type to have laid foundations for other mobile operators in Lithuania. Within a short period of time it was succeeded to gather a highly professional staff to work diligently and reliably. Concurrently, reception-transmission base stations of Comliet operate both in the cities of the country and all districts. Practically the whole of Lithuania is covered by the NMT 450 standard mobile cellular network. Our customers might utilise their terminals in Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland and some cities of Russia. In the short run such capabilities will come available in Bulgaria and the Ukraine. Experience of Scandinavia shows that the prospects for our company are too far unexhausted. Many of Comliet customers are mobile people that engage in solid businesses, lead profitable companies. Even when driving a car or cruising, they are using their wireless phones and make key solutions and establish important contacts. Not forgotten are the clients of more settled categories, farmers for instance. Among them wireless phones driving their power from the mains enjoy a great popularity. This is a convenient alternative for the fixed (wire) telephone network, since these phones with a special antenna efficiently might be used within the whole Lithuania. Furthermore, the prices for their provided services are markedly lower. They, therefore, become accessible for ever broader public layers. Company Comliet was the first in Lithuania to have introduced one more communications novelty -- voice mail. Anytime one might leave a message in a specially coded customer's "mail box", if the owner of the phone is conversing with somebody else, the phone is turned off or it is without the radio coverage. By virtue of voice mail no one essential message is lost. Company Comliet might justly boast the broadest mobile cellular network implemented in Lithuania and the greatest experience gained in it. |
