Jonas Kubilius (b. 27. 07.1921) Mathematician, Dr. Habil., Full Member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Eightieth Rector of Vilnius University 1958-1991, who modernised and restored a Lithuanian-oriented emphasis to this very important institution of higher learning; holder of Honourary Doctorate Degrees from foreign universities (Greifswald, Prague, Latvia and Salzburg). Founder and leader of the Lithuanian School of the Theory of Probability and the Theory of Numbers. Author of many mathematical discoveries (Lemma of Kubilius, Inequality of Kubilius). The initiator and founder of the probabilistic number theory, whose work, "Probability Methods in the Numbers Theory," which appeared in 1959, has been reprinted 4 times in the West, in English. Author of books of problems and textbooks. Member of the Seimas of Lithuania, 1992-96.

Stanislovas Kuzma (b. 07.05.1947) Sculptor who in his Earlier Period employed wood more frequently and later began to create monumental stone and bronze sculptures. In his art, he merges some forms of decorative style and monumentalism, to achieve a high level of aestheticism. His works are emotional and allegorical. He has created representative sculptures in Siauliai (the city symbol, "Marksman"), in the "Lietuva" Hotel in Vilnius, a sculpture ensemble at the Vilnius State Drama Theatre, a memorial monument to the Victims of the Defence of Freedom, at the Antakalnio Cemetery in Vilnius, and has re-created figures of the three saints on top of Vilnius Cathedral. Creates sculptures for churches. Many of his wooden sculptures are held in private collections.

Justinas Marcinkevicius (10.03.1930) Poet and writer with a broad spectrum of creativity, extending from love lyrics to heroic epics. Many of his poems have become songs. Writes essays, journalistic materials, translates (e.g. the Finnish epic Kalevala, A. Mickiewicz poetry). Supported national consciousness, during the Soviet period, through dramas involving historical themes, attained fame with his Drama Trilogy: "Mindaugas," 1968, "The Cathedral," 1971, and "Mazvydas," 1977, which were performed not only in Lithuanian theatres, but also abroad. His works have been translated into over 20 languages and more than 130 books.

Eimuntas Nekrosius (b. 21.11.1952) a theatre director who rose to fame during the mid-1980's. In 1978, he took charge of the Youth Theatre, where he created his own stage language and acting style for the actors; he reveals the characters with the aid of movement and object symbols. Since 1991, he has held the position of Resident Director of the Lithuanian International Theatre Festival, LIFE. Here, he produced Pushkin's "Mazosios Tragedijos," (Small Tragedies) and Chekhov's "Trys Seserys," (Three Sisters). These plays were entered in many international theatre festivals. In 1994, E. Nekrosius was awarded the prize of the New European Theatre Realities, by the European Theatre Union and Taormina Arts Committee (Italy).

Virgilijus Noreika (b. 22.09.1935), opera singer (tenor). In 1958, he completed studies under the world-famous tenor, Kipras Petrauskas at the Vilnius Conservatory. He started to sing with the Lithuanian Opera Theatre while still a student. During 1965-1966 he received further training at "La Scala" Theatre in Milan. He headed the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theatre for many years. He is the winner of many international competitions. Currently, he is a soloist with the Lithuanian Opera Theatre and professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music. His work is characterised by dramatic acting and an outstanding talent.
