The history of Lietuvos farmacija dates back to 1945, when the government of Lithuania founded the state medicine supply enterprise Farmacija. For a long time it was the largest drug wholesaler in Lithuania. In 1995 the enterprise was reorganized to form the special purpose joint-stock company Lietuvos farmacija. Today the company has a storehouse in Vilnius and a branch with its own storehouse in Klaipeda.

Lietuvos farmacija supplies hospitals and drugstores with essential drugs, raw materials and articles related to the health services.

Approximately 129 people are employed at the company. The activities of the company are governed by its directorate. The total turnover in 1995 was USD 6.8 million.

Marketing
Today 40 international pharmaceutical companies in Great Britain, Ger-many, Hungary, Denmark, Poland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria, Latvia, Estonia, Belorussia and Russia are business partners of Lietuvos farmacija.

The wholesale business
The sales department is responsible for handling distribution in Lithuania for all manufacturers, whether domestic or international. The products are delivered to the pharmacies according to need. Pharmacies in the capital area receive products every day.

The distribution system and its organization are under constant inspection, meeting its clients' special wishes.

Quality control
The quality control department carries out quality control of incoming dosage forms in accordance with the requirements of the health authorities.

Medical equipment and nursing products
Lietuvos farmacija has established itself in selling products for nursing and examinations. A special department is responsible for the marketing of a wide range of health service articles, reagents and diagnostic preparations for hospitals and laboratories.
