Malsena produce flour. The name Malsena means "grist": the main products are wheat flour and combined roughage. Though some historians say the first water-mill in Panevezys was built in the 18th century, mills are mentioned in a letter of 1503 from the Grand Duke Alexander to the Dean of Ramygala. There were 20 mills in the district in Panevezys at the beginning of this century, and the tradition is now kept alive by the Malsena company. Wheat flour, semolina, oats, dietary bran and various types of fodder for poultry, pigs and cattle are produced. Wheat flour production at the mill dates from 1847. In 1940, when bread production came under state control, a plot of land was allocated for the construction of a grain elevator, but the structure was destroyed in the war. Reconstruction began in 1944. A new construction project was begun in 1987, and production in the new mill began in 1993.

The first graded wheat flour mill, with a capacity of 250 tonnes per day, went into operation in 1994. The milling shop produces only the finest quality flour, the best in Lithuania. Malsena is the only producer in the Baltic States that is capable of separating wheat germ. At the customer's request, the company can produce germ flour (with a high protein content, a malty taste and no starch), high-quality wheat flour, and semolina.
