Marijampoles Pieno Konservai ("Canned Dairy Products") was established in 1977 as a state enterprise. It is among the most modern milk-processing enterprises in Lithuania and the other Baltic states. In 1995 it was re-organized into a joint-stock company, with a share capital of LTL 63.9 million. At present 66.5% of the share capital belongs to the state, 19% to the farmers and 14.5% to individuals and other legal entities. The company employ a staff of 1562: 1410 workers and 121 specialists. Besides the main enterprise in Marijampole, the company also owns a dairy department in the town of Kalvarija and dairies in Virbalis, Jurbarkas, Luksiai, Lazdijai and Prienai. The company specializes in making dairy products which are later canned or packed. Annual industrial capacity runs to 166 million 400-g cans. Annual industrial capacity of dairy products: 23,000 tons of butter, 5000 tons of skimmed milk powder, 1,300 tons of casein, 120 tons of fermented cheese and 55,000 tons of whole-milk products. The company also produces instant coffee, a chocolate beverage, cocoa powder, capuccino coffee, UHT milk (sterilized by ultra-high temperature) and various beverages that are packed in "Tetra-pak" containers, and metal lids and tops for glass containers. It also bottles and packs juice and other beverages for clients, and produces and colours polymeric packs. Milk is supplied by almost 140,000 dairy farmers from the regions of Marijampole, Vilkaviskis, Sakiai, Jurbarkas, Lazdijai, Prienai, Alytus and Kaunas. In 1996, the company bought 153,000 tons of milk. The same year, it produced goods worth LTL 160 million and performed services for LTL 6 million, and returned a profit of LTL 6.4 million; 76% of all production is exported. New automatic equipment and processing lines have been installed at the main enterprise in Marijampole: a line from FMC in Belgium for sterilizing and canning evaporated sterilized milk, equipment from Sefers in Holland for the vacuum-evaporation of condensed milk, a line from Krupp in Germany for can production, a line for UHT milk, juice and beverage production, two lines for packing products in "Tetra-pak" cartons, equipment from Unipektin in Switzerland for vacuum evaporation, and a drier from Slovakia for producing milk powder, etc. |
