Obeliu aliejus was the first company to begin rapeseed oil production in Lithuania, and since the oil-pressing plant was opened in 1994 it has been one of the country's main oil producers. Initially, it produced unrefined oil, but two years later a refining, deodorising, bleaching and bottling line was added. Built by the German firm Krupp, it has a capacity of 20,000 litres of oil every 24 hours. The company have recently acquired new Italian equipment from the firm SIPA for the production of half-litre and litre bottles using PET granules. These bottles are convenient to use, with an attractive aesthetic design and meet European standards. The company's General Manager, Bernardas Trimonis, is also President of the Association of Businessmen in the Oil Industry of Lithuania. The company employ 100 people and are one of the major vegetable oil producers. Lithuanian consumers were quick to notice the advantages of rapeseed oil from Obeliu aliejus. As it contains 99.9% pure fat, 0.25 less of it is needed for food preparation than of any other food oil. It is used for cooking, salads, etc. No preservatives or synthetic materials are used in its production. Nutrition experts have established that fatty acids are present in the best balance in rapeseed oil; this balance is very important for the prevention of arteriosclerosis, heart and blood-vessel diseases. Rapeseed oil consists of 10% of a certain acid which reduces coagulation of the blood, thus reducing the probability of heart attacks.
