Spengla was founded as a company trading in gift items made from natural forest products. The company produces for exports for West European countries, mainly to Germany. Natural conditions in this area of Lithuania are the best for such a business because Varena, the little town where the company was founded, is surrounded by coniferous forests. The company guarantees a supply of mushrooms and berries in order to offer clients the best possible quality of goods and delivery to clients according to need. The joint-stock company was created in 1990 and now operates under the direction of two share holders, Stase and Juozas Scesnuleviciai. Thus Spengla is a family business. Since its foundation, Spengla has turned a profit and has secure company capital, which has made it possible to go ahead with the main plans of the company's founders to open a sewing department and a pub in the town. Two circumstances favoured these plans: firstly, Varena is a town of seamstresses who need employment, and secondly, Lithuania is famous for wonderful beer, so the townsmen wanted not only to taste this excellent drink, but to create a nice place for having good time. In 1993 both ideas were realised. Up to 1996 the Sewing Department's activity was extended to 50 working places. The company has worked mainly for the export market since it was founded. Spengla has established steady relations with Scandinavian sewing companies in order to produce garments. The high quality of operator and staff was guaranteed. At present Spengla is successfully co-operating with partners and can ensure honesty and goodwill in joint work. From the day of its opening in 1993, the pub has become a famous place in the town thanks to good cooking and fine service. The Administrative Department endeavours to do everything to improve the quality of service and leave a good impression about this place. Notwithstanding difficulties which all young companies encounter, the total turnover in 1996 was USD 250,000. Spengla is ready to support co-operation with companies interested in forest gift import or sewing services.
