The company Canned Fish has been working in the territory of the port for 50 years.

The company employs 600 people, including highly skilled specialists. All kinds of smoked, salted and other fish products are produced at the enterprise from ocean and Baltic Sea fish, but the main activity is the production of sterilized canned fish. Canned sardines, gilt sardines, herring, mackerel, sprat and some other fish in natural juice, vegetable oil and all kinds of sauces, and smoked sprat in oil are produced. The production capacity is 20 million 120- , 160- and 240-cans per year. Fifty tons of raw fish are processed per day. As the enterprise is situated on the embankment of the port, it has good facilities for the supply of raw fish. There is refrigerator storage for 1000 tons. The greater part of production is exported to the Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan markets. Our partners also are the countries of Eastern and Central Europe: the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany. We have a wide network of distributors. In this way the firm processes about 10,000 tons of raw fish each year.

We offer attractive terms for co-operating and the development of business and mediation between Eastern and Western markets. So far, 80% of shares belong to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Forests and 20% to the employees. The General Manager of the company is Ruta Lastochkina.

Following the strategy of the economic development of Lithuania it is planned that the percentage of private joint-stock capital will rapidly increase. A strategic programme of renewal of technical and technological processes is under way.
