| The joint
stock company BMGS, Plc. was founded in 1993, based on the Baltmorgidrostroy Trust which
had in turn been founded in 1953 by the USSR Ministry of Transport Construction. The
Company are engaged in port construction and other structures for merchant marine use in
the Baltic Basin. As an assignee of the Baltmorgidrostroy Trust, BMGS continue to carry
out the Trust’s goal of marine construction in the Baltic republics of Estonia, Latvia,
and Lithuania, as well as in the Kaliningrad Region, and to employ the Trust’s principal
staff. Since the Trust’s founding in 1953 more than 900 projects have been carried out, worth USD 5 billion. These projects include 17 marine and river merchant ports in Kaliningrad, Pionersk, Svetly, Klaipeda, Liepaja, Ventspils, Riga, Tallinn, etc.; 12 shipyards and ferry terminals in Klaipeda, Riga and Tallinn; oil and chemical terminals; and more than 100 km of berthing, sea-walls and shore protection structures. The Company have all the necessary equipment for construction: floating cranes, pile drivers, barges, tugboats, and diver vessels for the erection of complex structures. The Company’s own facilities for producing reinforced concrete elements for marine construction, combi-walls and other steel designs. The Company’s three concrete plants in Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja can produce central-mix concrete.

For on-shore construction the Company have all the necessary equipment, including excavators, cranes, bulldozers, dump-trucks and many other types. BMGS follows the tradition of the former Trust in constructing new types of progressive quays and embankments and in obtaining high labour productivity. The Company is currently implementing a five-year programme of technical improvements aimed at reducing the amount of labour involved and the share of manual labour and in building better quality constructions. The Company maintain ties with project and research institutes in the Commonwealth of Independent States, and with which we have contracts of co-operation. We hold the same type of contracts with several European and Nordic construction companies (Lenmorniiprojekt, CNIIS, NIIZB, VNIIGS, NCC, NOCON, August Reiners, EBE, and others). BMGS have a staff of 570 with 40 experienced engineers, including those with doctorates and candidate in technical sciences (N. Burin, K. Piatnitsky, S. Chernigin). The President of BMGS Plc. is Viktor Para, who was also the General Director of Baltmorgidrostroy Trust, he appeals to all firms interested in port construction in the Baltic region to take steps to establish co-operative agreements. BMGS offer services for building marine structures, pile foundations, building services, passenger and cargo terminals and other merchant marine structures. Mr Para says: “Our principle is to build to budget and on time, with high quality and at a moderate contract price.” |
