The woodworking firm Flora was founded in 1991 as a private enterprise solely owned by Mr
Maris Buss. a production volume worth USD 100,000, by 1996 the company had grown to 76 employees and a production volume worth USD 1,400,000, with 80% exported to Germany. In the last three years the company has invested about USD 500,000 in HESS, DIMTER and WEINIG woodworking machines, drying kilns from MÜHLBOCK, and other equipment. Currently Flora are investing in order to expand production of ready-made windows. The company also own a sawmill, which assures part of the need for boards for the production of laminated timber. Flora are a leading producer of decorative ledges in Latvia. Nine people make up the Board, including Mr Maris Buss, Owner and Managing Director, and Mr Eriks Duncis, Assistant Manager.
The closest air terminal is in Riga, 45 km from Jelgava. The nearest ports are: Riga - 45 km, Liepaja - 170 km, and Ventspils - 170 km. Flora usually use lorries for transporting, with deliveries to Germany taking only 3-4 days. Jelgava is situated only 30 km from the border with Lithuania and about 400 km from the Polish border. |
