Norway during the Second World War
The march towards a Welfare State was brutally interrupted when Hitler's Germany attacked Norway in 1940. After two months of fighting in Norway, the King and the Government continued the fight from Great Britain where the Free Norwegian Armed Forces took part in the allied war effort. An even greater contribution came from Norway's merchant navy, which was vital for Allied supplies.
