Population of Norway
As of January 1992, the population of Norway approached 4,299,167, or the equivalent of 13.3 inhabitants per km2. If the mainland was divided equally among all inhabitants, there would be some 80,000 m2 for each Norwegian. Approximately 75% of the population live in towns and urban areas; the remainder inhabit rural districts.

The majority of the population is of Nordic descent (tall, fair-skinned and blond). The Sami people form an ethnic minority of some 40,000 individuals, mostly in the north. Their culture and language are different from that of the rest of Norway.

Immigrants from the Third World must be regarded as an ethnic minority, in that many foreign workers and their families have established permanent residence in Norway.
