R.S. Platou Shipbrokers a.s was established in 1936 and has a long tradition in serving the international marine industries. With offices in Oslo, Singapore, Houston, Shanghai and Rio de Janeiro and a multinational staff of more than 125 persons, R.S. Platou can offer a wide range of shipping brokerage services. We also own 25 per cent in Digital Agenda, an Internet consultant company with a primary focus on maritime industries. Sale and Purchase Our sale and purchase team has maintained its position as one of the leading brokers in the international shipping market and our objective is to further expand this activity into markets that are currently not sufficiently served by an existing broker network. Contracting of New Vessels Platou is a major catalyst in the market for contracting of new vessels, working with shipowners and shipyards all over the world. We have up-to-date information on the development of price levels, which yards are most competitive for the different types of tonnage, special contractual terms available, as well as owners who are planning to order new vessels. A particular specialty has been back-to-back transactions for newbuildings with long term charter arrangements. Chartering Platou concentrates on vessels and cargoes within the general trades for dry bulk, petroleum products and crude oil. In addition, we have teams specialising on offshore supply vessels, shuttle tankers, transportation of forest products and cars. Market Research A particular strength is our in-depth market research activities. We are continuously making updated status reports and future projections for the dry bulk and the main tanker trades. In addition, "one-off" studies are made for special projects or market niches in which we are particularly active at any given time. Offshore Marine Services Platou has built up, and kept, a leading position in sale and purchase of drilling rigs and offshore service vessels with offices in Oslo, Houston and Singapore. We have also been instrumental in bringing to the market several new designs both of semi-submersible and jack-up drilling rigs as well as offshore supply vessels. We are continuously assisting drilling contractors in securing work for their rigs in new areas. In the supply vessel sector, we cover the world market with particular emphasis on Europe and Asia. We also advise national and private oil companies on special marine equipment acquisitions. Consultants Both on the shipping side and the offshore sector, R.S. Platou Shipbrokers and R.S. Platou Offshore provide evaluations of special projects or give advice in matters where our market knowledge is required. Estimating fair market values of shipping and offshore assets is an important consultancy activity for our different sale and purchase groups. These Certificates of Valuation are extensively used by owning and operating companies, major international banks and equity investors. Financial Services In addition to the traditional activities, we have entered into close cooperation with Orkla Securities, and thus can offer financial advice and services in the Norwegian and Scandinavian markets. Orkla Securities is a leading investment bank and securities house focusing on equities sales and trading, research investment banking and discretionary portfolio management. The various activities are coordinated closely to offer clients an integrated service. |
