The Nordic Countries

Culture and education
The communications and information technology of the present day has made the world a much smaller place. Increasing foreign language skills enable people to enjoy culture and entertainment from different parts of the world. Nordic adults and their children can watch foreign films and satellite television or read foreign books and magazines just as easily as they can enjoy the culture of their native country. The majority of people in the Nordic countries like to see their youngsters' interest in foreign cultures develop hand-in-hand with their own culture. Therefore Nordic co-operation in the fields of culture and media, with a special emphasis on young people, has increased substantially.

Now, with 3 of the 5 member countries being members of the European Union (EU), Nordic collaboration will undoubtedly become more complicated. However, the Nordic Council of Ministers is agreed on further co-operation with a special focus on the fields of culture, education and research. The Council can thus become a forum for the expression of the general opinion of the Nordic countries in both a European and an international context
