The aim of the Council
The role of the Nordic Council of Ministers is to safeguard and develop Nordic co-operation and to consult each other on matters of mutual interest in collaboration with Europe and other international organizations.

The Council deals with issues concerning legal, cultural, social and economic fields and also the environment and communications. Only recently, matters of foreign policy and security have been included and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs meet regularly for discussions and exchange of views.
