Autocommerce has been present in the Slovene market for more than forty-five years. It is the successor of Jugomercedes, a company established in Ljubljana in 1952 that won recognition in the former Yugoslavia first as general representative and dealer for Mercedes-Benz and later by representing many other internationally renowned car manufacturers (Audi, Volkswagen, Honda) and distributing original spare parts, automobile accessories, oils, lubricants, and tires. Like many other commercial enterprises, Autocommerce was forced to confront sweeping changes in the political and economic system in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, but in contrast to many others, the company successfully survived this uneasy and economically unstable period. Today, Autocommerce has grown into a business system that has added several promising new activities to its foundation in the automobile business. It has diversified its activities and transformed into a strong commercial company capable of meeting the challenges and demands of Slovenia’s market of two million as well as those of the unified European market with its many millions of consumers in the next millennium. Today, the Autocommerce group is engaged in four strategic business areas, the automobile business, commerce, tourism, and finance, and unites companies that are fully owned or controlled by Autocommerce or are its affiliates. The group’s 1997 turnover reached 500 million DEM, ranking it among the twenty largest and most successful companies in Slovenia. Autocommerce companies engaged in the automobile business include AC-Intercar, general representative for Daimler-Benz in Slovenia; AC-Mobil, general representative for Honda in Slovenia; and Avto Triglav, exclusive importer for Fiat, Lancia, and Alfa Romeo automobiles and Aprilia motors and motorcycles, all top-quality products of renowned Italian manufacturers. Autocommerce companies engaged in commerce are AC-Zastopstva, distributing automobile accessories, oils, lubricants, and tires for some thirty famous trade names (PB, Michelin, Continental, Kleber, Sachs, Goetze, ZF, Valeo, BEHR, etc.); AC-Sped, which engages exclusively in forwarding activities; and Elektrotehna SET, a wholesaler and retailer of electric and electronic materials and devices through a sales network of more than fifty retail stores across Slovenia. |
