The company’s products come in many shapes and sizes, from small breadboards and chopping boards that will fit into any kitchen to striking centerpieces. The conical table, for example, standing 81 cm tall on a metal pedestal with a hardwood body and drawers was originally designed as a one-off exhibition piece for a trade fair in Germany.

However, interest was so strong that the company went into full production. The quality of its design has been recognized with an International Design Award.

Ergotrade’s clean and simple shapes are designed to bring out the qualities and grain of the hardwoods from which they are made. The range includes both attractive solid wood products and striking combinations of wood and metal, as in some of the serving trolleys.

Started in 1990 with just two people, Stanka Verbic’s company has been built up entirely through its own internal resources and success. Despite the economic crisis that affected much of Slovene industry in the 1990’s and an often unfavourable climate for smaller companies, Ergotrade’s growth has been impressive. The company now has some sixty production workers cooperating with its architects and designers in factories in southern Slovenia, an area with abundant forests and a centuries-long tradition of furniture production.

With its focus on design and quality, the company has secured a place in some of the most demanding markets in the world.
