History

Geodetski zavod Slovenije was established by the government of the Federal Republic of Slovenia in June 1947, and was a state-owned enterprise. Following privatization, it became a joint-stock company on November 26, 1997. Today, the company has 130 employees, including 43% with university and higher education.

Our principal activity is surveying and cartography and includes topographic and land cadaster surveying, geodetic measurements for industry and civil engineering projects, producing and updating topographical maps in scales from 1:500 to 1:10,000, digital orthophoto maps including DTM (digital terrain models), cartographic production of topographic maps in scales from 1:20,000 to 1:1,000,000, and thematic maps.

Main activities and products:

• Field surveys for topographic and land cadastral maps using Leica Heerbrugg AG total stations and GPS receivers;
• Aerial surveys, metric terrestrial photography, and b/w and colour photographic reproduction work (two airplanes equipped with metric cameras, f = 152, 210, and 305 mm, FMC, Zeiss Jena UMK 10 terrestrial camera);
• Stereophotogrammetric map restitution in various scales and for various purposes using computer supported analogue and analytical photogrammetric instruments;
• Production of digital orthophoto maps including DTM and hard copy output (Leica Helava DSW 100 + DPW 770, Virtuoso);
• Producing and updating topographical maps in mid-scales of 1:5000, 1:25,000 and 1:50,000;
• Publishing town maps and tourist, mountaineering, and other thematic maps;
• Data collection and database integration for the Geographical Information System using Esri ArcInfo and ArcView, AutoCAD, and many other software programs.
