| Background of
the Company
IBM has been present in Slovenia for more than sixty years, initially as an independent company and from 1964 to 1992 through their general representative, the Slovene company Intertrade. When the situation and legislation changed to again allow foreign companies to operate in Slovenia, IBM re-entered the Slovene market independently as of October 1, 1992, when IBM World Trade (EMEA) established IBM Slovenia, a production, marketing, and services company that today is owned by the IBM World Trade Corporation, U.S.A. Marketing Today, IBM Slovenia has 151 employees, who together can ensure professional and successful operations in the following fields: marketing industry-oriented solutions, IBM hardware and software products, product management and services, and the transfer of IBM knowledge and technology. IBM Slovenia experts can provide customer-oriented solutions for banking, finance, and insurance institutions, government and public institutions, and manufacturing and distribution companies, as well as provide product support and services in the installation and maintenance of computer equipment, systems-engineering support, software support, installation and support of computer networks (cabling), network and communication services, and education. Customer-oriented solutions are offered in cooperation with some forty Slovene companies that are contractual IBM business partners. IBM Slovenia plays an international role in the Central European region. Two specialized
centers belong to the sphere of IBM Slovenia’s international activity: Located in Radovljica, the combined IBM Slovenia Education Center (established 1992) and IBM PC Institute (established 1995) offer training programs conducted by Slovene and foreign IBM lecturers intended for IBM employees, business partners, and customers and users of IBM technology. Students come from all European countries, and with the steady growth of interest in computer technology, we expect some 8000 students to attend courses this year. The IBM PC Institute is one of five European institutes (there are similar institutes in London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Moscow) offering specialized education for users of IBM software and hardware and for users of local networks based on these software and hardware products. |
