The origins of the LIKO Vrhnika, d.d. wood processing factory stretch back to the previous century. On the edge of the Ljubljana marshlands - more precisely in Borovnica and its surrounding settlements - sawmills were common in the past, and in 1872 the first factory was built in Verd.

At first, logs were sawn here and hardwood oak parquet produced. Later on, the Verd parquet factory became famous throughout Europe for its wonderful ornamental mosaic parquet floors.

Over time, with the building of new production facilities and improvements in technology, the company began expanding its production range with an emphasis on end-products, and began the industrial production of hardwood furniture. This allowed the company to penetrate foreign markets, especially those in western Europe and North America.

LIKO today exports its products to over 25 countries on all continents, and takes part in trade fairs throughout the world.

Their production range comprises:

• semi products and the preparation of components for final production;
• interior doors and frames from various types of wood in various designs: interior doors with chipboard or solid wood frames, veneered doors, lacqured doors, moulded doors with different chipboard cores or hollow cores, special doors such as soundproof and fireproof doors;
• solid external doors with transoms and sidelights, garage doors and solid country style doors.

The most important markets for these products are Austria, Germany, Italy, Denmark and Canada:

• chairs: contemporary, traditional and windsor designs;
• tables with solid or laminated tops, serving trolleys, cupboards;
• laminated boards;
• solid steps;
• cots;
• finger jointing automatic machines.

Over 95% of production is exported to Western markets, mainly the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

LIKO is one of the most successful wood processing companies in Slovenia. It employs a staff of 600, generating an annual income of DM 50 million.

The LIKO Vrhnika joint stock company decided to concentrate on overall quality and excellence, and on becoming the best in its field. The company is set to become a modern European and global company.

Its innovative development is built on a rich, established tradition of furniture production. These basic values are also stressed in its slogan: “LIKO - Your door into the world of nature and beauty”.
